Dear friends,

Happy New Year and welcome to the Twenties!

Got plans for your extra day this leap year? Please consider volunteering at the Windermere labyrinth work party on Leap Day, Saturday, February 29. We’ll start at 9:00 am and end by 6:00. We’re intending this to be a fun, productive, graceful, Light-filled day of service.

What is a labyrinth? The photo below is of the labyrinth at our sister site in Los Angeles, Peace Awareness Labyrinth and Gardens. The one at Windermere will be the same pattern but will be built with different materials. Learn more about labyrinths here.

In order to keep the focus, we are capping the number of volunteers to 25, so if you’re interested, please reserve your spot by replying to this newsletter (milo@iiwp.org). This labyrinth might last for decades or more. We’d love to have you be part of creating it.

No experience is necessary. While many of the tasks require physical strength, we want this to be inclusive. We ask that you stay focused on the project and have an intention of service for the Highest Good while you’re here, but pace yourself. Whatever you have to offer is enough. It’s a community project and it’s the heart that really matters.

Available roles (will be adjusted as needed on the day of the event):

10 Stone setters - Med/Heavy duty. Use hand trowels to carefully dig out the labyrinth pattern and set the stone. It’ll all be marked out for you when you arrive with clear instructions. It requires working on the ground. We’ll supply knee pads and work gloves as needed. If you’re used to gardening, this will be familiar. Think of it as planting stones.

8 Stone Chippers - Med/heavy duty. Using a hammer and chisel, shape and chip flagstone pieces to match cardboard patterns. You’ll be set up at a table, given proper personal protective equipment, and a hammer and chisel with a huge protective guard in case it’s been a few lifetimes since you’ve swung a hammer.

3 Pattern Cutters - Light duty job. You’ll make cardboard cutouts of the necessary shapes and bring them to the stone chippers.

4 Musicians, Entertainers and/or Guest Services - Light duty. Fill in as needed and as your heart calls. Help prep for meals, keep the water and snacks stocked. If it’s a cool day, keep the warm drinks hot and flowing.

We’re asking the local Santa Barbara community to join us at mealtimes and bring dishes to share - potluck style.

We have a few spots available for people who would like to stay the night before or after the work party. In fact, we could use a few assistants the night before to help prep.

Want to assist in other ways?
